What is Microsoft Fabric and why it matters?

Microsoft Fabric is an all-in-one analytics platform created for businesses and data professionals.
The platform handles everything from data science and real-time analytics to data storage and data migration. It's a cohesive platform combining various tools and technologies into a single solution.
It is a fully software as a service (SaaS) analytics platform that unifies everything your data teams need. It brings data integration, engineering, warehousing, data science, real-time analytics, and data visualisation into one licensed workspace that is fully governed.

I already have a data platform, why swap to Microsoft Fabric?

  • DataDiver's recommendation would be to continue using your existing data platform but leverage the new components within Microsoft Fabric such as notebooks, Machine Learning Models or Experiments.
  • Fabric is a Microsoft product, so it is compatible with Azure and integratable with your existing platform. For non-Azure platforms, Fabric has access to a lot of the same connectors as Azure.

  • Yes, Microsoft Fabric can access Dataverse tables through either shortcuts or Azure Synapse Link for Microsoft Fabric

  • Fabric's CI/CD is quite young inits lifecycle, currently there are several different methods, such as DevOps pipelines or Power BI Deployment Pipelines, for implementing CI/CD but not a Microsoft recommended method.
